GPA’s Safety and Environmental Management Systems Achieve Top Marks

Geraldton Port Authority’s Safety and Environmental Management Systems have been certified as compliant with the requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management) and AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004 (Environment Management).

GPA CEO Peter Klein said the certification was a substantial achievement and demonstrated the value the organisation placed on effective management of occupational health and safety and environmental risk management.

“The compliance was confirmed by NCS International, Australia’s leading business assurance and training organisation, measuring conformance against standards, industry benchmarks and specifications,” he said.

“NSCI certification reinforces the Port’s ongoing commitment to continually improving our business processes and systems and ensures we are aligned with national and international best practice.

“It also provides a platform to enable the Port to set and achieve goals and objectives relating to delivering consistent and reliable products and services.”

Mr Klein reinforced that GPA placed the highest emphasis on safety and health in conducting its daily business.

“We believe in the continual reinforcement of the principles of workplace safety and environmental vigilance and this commitment is positively impacting on practices employed by each and every person involved with Port operations,” he said.  

“GPA’s staff and contractors have accepted the challenge and their efforts to deliver a safer and cleaner workplace are to be commended.

“Our environmental policy reaffirms GPA’s commitment to maintaining and reviewing measurable objectives and targets to ensure continuous improvement, damage prevention and compliance with environmental regulations.

“It was very satisfying to see the certification auditor report a positive safety and environment culture at Geraldton Port."
