QB Interiors: Competes With Quality
For more than 12 years QB Interiors has operated as a specialist building business delivering high quality commercial fitout and refurbishments to clients such as Daily Mirror Group, Stocklands, Investa, Jones Lang LaSalle and Colonial First State.
According to the Head of Marketing and Business Development with QB Interiors, Vantonian Tutaki: “We employ, train & mentor all our own Tradesmen, ensuring attention to detail, execution & finishing live up to our name.”
“We focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards in the structural integrity of the build. We also place a strong emphasis on the detailing of the finished product,” said Vantonian.
“To deliver against these promises of high standards we sought to gain certification to two of the world’s leading management systems Standards AS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety and AS/NZS ISO 9001 Quality Management.”
“In choosing an audit partner to take us through the certification process, we looked to NCS International for their superior pricing and industry knowledge. It was also important for us that NCS International’s certification trademark, the WorldStar, is recognizable and carries weight in the market. All these things helped us make our decision to use them.”
The journey to double certification for QB Interiors was achieved in an astonishingly fast time, “it took us 7 months from start to finish. From the gap analysis to the final certification audit we learnt to embed the management system in the organization.”
“I drove the process and invested a lot of man hours and resources to get it done. At the end of the day, it was beneficial to the company to get our management systems sorted out, said Vantonian.
QB Interiors used the certification process to streamline their project management systems. They re-engineered and accurately documented their processes and procedures. In doing so they developed two business manuals, a management manual which enables the office team to operate effectively and a site manual that provides a precise and robust structure for their teams on the ground.
According to Vantonian: “We stand behind the quality of our work. Traditionally, when fitout companies subcontract out the work they do not get that extra 5 percent. However, by employing our own carpenters and Tradesmen, supported by our certifications, we believe we are one of the industry leaders.”
Gaining certification has also benefited QB Interiors in helping them access new clients and grow their business. “In seeking to grow our business we sort to access government procurement lists. To do this we needed a quality assurance (QA) process in place. The company directors wanted to undertake the QA process to help drive growth.”
“But certification has delivered more than just government contracts. It is the first step in our business plan. It separates us from our competitors in the fitout industry. Our competitors can not compete with our credentials and we believe it reduces our clients exposure to litigation.”
QB Interiors plans to build on their success with AS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety and AS/NZS ISO 9001 Quality Management certification and are looking to gain certification to ISO 14001. “We believe we have the perfect platform to continue to gain other certification benefits. Our next step will be to gain environmental certification,” said Vantonian. Surely, with this environmental achievement along side their occupational health and safety and quality management accolades QB Interiors will be built for success.
