Abergeldie providing infrastructure to build communities
Certification: ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems (QMS) Standard, ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Standard, AS/NZ 4801:2001 Safety Management Systems (SMS) Standard
Abergeldie achieved third party certification in 2007. Abergeldie realised our clients, primarily government organisations were increasingly requiring certification for larger and more complex projects. It is these types of projects that Abergeldie has focussed and grown as a result. Instead of being content with a second party certification, Abergeldie sought and successfully acquired third party certification for our Quality, Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management Systems. This has enabled Abergeldie’s clients to have confidence in our project delivery. It has also benefitted Abergeldie by pursuing the underlying principle of continual improvement.
The Abergeldie Group was established by Managing Director, Michael Boyle in 1994 with the aim to carry out complex civil infrastructure and building contracts throughout eastern Australia. As Abergeldie has grown over the last fifteen years so have the variety, size and complexity of its projects. Fourteen years ago, Abergeldie was constructing sewage pump stations in the Blue Mountains. Today, it’s completing construction of the Lower Molonglo Water Quality Control Centre in Canberra with a project value of $40 million.
The group expanded in 2007 acquiring sister company Ardent Underground Pty Ltd. Ardent Underground has been renamed Abergeldie Mining and its new drill rig will be operational in July 2009.
The Abergeldie Group then acquired process engineering company John Young (Kelvinhaugh) Pty Ltd. JYK has been offering design & construction and supply & installation of process equipment in Australia for over 20 years, yet their roots go back to a company formed in Scotland in 1888.
Blind bore shaft company Ardent Underground gained international attention after designing and developing drill rigs most effective through difficult ground conditions including fractured strata, high pressure aquifers and deep hard rock. Shafts of up to 6.8 metres in diameter and 700 metres deep can be drilled and lined entirely by remote methods. No personnel enter the shaft during any phase of the work this provides the safest and fastest way to access underground mines without interruption to mine production which is a big advantage, particularly to new mine developments and tunnelling projects. Their composite steel and concrete liners were the first of their type used in Australia.
With Ardent and JYK expertise The Abergeldie Group’s services extend to petroleum plant development; water treatment; process equipment; material handling systems and food equipment installation in addition to large diameter shaft boring, dams, marine, rail, electrical, bridges, process and mining infrastructure.
The company has a workforce of more than 100 direct employees “Our staff are motivated, loyal and multi-skilled,” added Mr. Boyle. Mick attributes the company’s success to the simple philosophy of safely carrying out good quality work, and the ability to undertake complex projects with the systems, procedures, and professionalism of the major contractors but with the individuality and flexibility that comes with a smaller company. Mick said the phrase “Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure” keeps us focused on what we do best. We are well known in the industry for our safety culture and the quality of our workmanship. The complex nature of the projects we do require us to have a strong client focus. We’re an approachable company and dynamic in carrying our construction projects. We are able to systematically manage safety, quality and the environment to timely completion. All this is done with the aim to provide satisfactory financial outcomes for the Abergeldie Group and our valued clients”.
Abergeldie can offer clients the complete package of large diameter shaft boring, process engineering and civil infrastructure. The company has offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra.
