Wespine Wins State Award
NCSI Would like to congratulate a client of our's Wespine Industries on their recent win at the 19th annual WA Information Technolody and Telecommunications Awards for its monitoring and analysis of production system.
Wespine is currently certified with NCSI for the Australian Wood Packaging Certification Scheme, Plantation Timber Certification and Chain of Custody.
A recent story in South Western Times tells the story of their acheivement.
"Wespine, the largest softwood sawmiller in the State, has been operating in the South West since 1985 and specialises in the production of Pinus radiata, a premium-quality plantation timber.
It's MAP system, used to manage the quality control process of timber grading, was developed over a number of years and has been used in production since 2007.
MAP includes real-time continuous updates of production data.
The real-time monitoring benefits the production crew, allowing them to keep a watchful eye on the process of the grading shifts and giving them the chance to react quickly when things go wrong.
Wespine analyst programmer Nancy Akl said winning the regional award had been extremely rewarding.
"Especially knowing that our program had been evaluated by information technology and telecommunications industry experts and found to be a commendable projec," she said.
"MAP was developed in-house with the collaboration of various departments within Wespine, combining the skills and knowledge from each area into this comprehensive system."
She said having the system identified as the winner of the regional category was a fantastic recognition of ongoing effort involved in the project.
